Product description

Filters work by capturing the pollutants out of the air and trapping them within themselves. This naturally means eventually they will become full and block the air flow to the point you are no longer about to laser cut without the machine filling up with smoke.

How they work

First part of the filter is the Pre-filter, the size and makeup varies depending on the model but its job remains the same; capture the larger particles and extend the lifespan of the more expensive combined filter.

For the FabFilter Essential and 350 the pre-filter is positioned directly in front of the main combined filter.

For the FabFiler plus the DeepPleat Duo pre-filter allows for longer lifespan through the use of clever air flow. Larger heavier particles drop to the bottom and thus less debris clogs the filter,

The combined filter is the second part of the filter and the most important part. Containing the Hepa filter and active chemical and gas filter.

HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air. HEPA filters provide a very high level of filtration for the smallest, as well as the largest, particulate contaminants. They send air through various pre-filters to assist with catching airborne particulate, capturing 99.997% of particles at 0.3 microns. Even when particles are smaller than this, they get captured by diffusion, meaning HEPA filters are extremely effective at capturing nanoparticles.

The final part of the filter is the chemical and gas filter. Contaminated air must remain in contact with the carbon bed for a period of time sufficient to ensure that no contaminants or odours are emitted (‘dwell time’). Our product designs consider the balance between air flow rates and the type, depth and surface area of the carbon used to ensure suitability for the contaminants associated with the application and to ensure that appropriate dwell times are achieved. Our filters have been developed to capture all contaminants and odours, eliminating the risk of bypass and/or tunnelling.

How long your filter lasts depends drastically on what you laser cut. We recommend sticking to materials which generate less smoke when operating a FabCreator machine with a filter.
